Step One: Preparation
This guide assumes you have an existing character and know the basics for playing the game. If you don’t, play through a few levels to learn the controls and interface basics, and learn about add-ons, since one in particular is required to follow this method.
The very first thing you should do is download an AddOn called Auctioneer Suite. The secret behind making free gold in WoW is a very simple principle you may have heard of before. It’s called “Buy low, sell high.” Auctioneer builds a database of prices and trends, advising you on what’s under and overprices, as well as setting the prices for you. The best part is, you don’t even have to think. Just do what it tells you and you’ll be making gold in no time.
With Auctioneer successfully installed, head to your server of choice and create a new character on the side your main character plays on.
This is important, because gold cannot cross the Horde/Alliance divide. Racewise, on the Horde side, the Blood Elves are ideal due to their easy access to a capitol. Trolls and Orcs are okay, but have a longer hike if time is a concern. Taurens are okay, given their access to Thunder Bluff, but I personally hate Thunder Bluff and the seemingly-slow runspeed.
On the Alliance side, humans and Draenei both have easy access to a capitol and relatively easy starting areas. Draenei-area monsters also tend to drop bags, which are very important and can be quite spendy for a new character. I would avoid gnomes, dwarves, and night elves, due to the relatively lengthy hike to a market hub. The choice is ultimately yours.
Class-wise, pick something you can stand to play for five or six levels or, possibly, more. We want to make this as pain free as possible. Do not take a profession. We will cover this in the next step.
